People - Six (often less) Degrees of Separation
I said "often less" because my personal experiences have often surprised me
that it's many times no more than two. Maybe it's just a natural phenomenon of
a world that's becoming smaller everyday through transportation, communications, and the
fact the increasing population increases the chance of secondary contacts.
The original version of this page had a list and explanations of my contacts with basically well-known
public figures that jobs and circumstances had afforded me the opportunity to meet. Then I realized it really did look like a
a self-important name dropping list. Believe me - after having met some of those people,
I often (but, not always) thought to myself - "Well, lah de frickin dah!".
To be fair - a person in the public eye can't afford to be overly friendly with a stranger they'll likely only meet once in
their lifetime. Public attention can create crazed fans, stalkers, etc.
Of course anytime you've personally
met a famous person you are then "connected" to all the famous people they socialize with...("Well, lah de frickin dah!")
In truth, the most important people in life you should get to know is loved ones and friends... and yourself. Introspection is not enough.
I've found I've actually learned more about myself (good and bad) by interacting with others...
